The Alexandria condos are opening where little new housing is built.
Certain neighborhoods on the western side of San Francisco are particularly loathe to add new housing, so it’s unusual to see a 43-unit condo building nearing completion in the Richmond.
The Alexandria, a four-story development, at 369 18th Ave. at Geary Boulevard, was developed by the TimeSpace Group and designed by Elevation Architects. Residents will have access to a courtyard and swimming pool inside the historic Alexandria Theater, which will be restored as an aquatics center.
Homes in the building range from studios to three-bedrooms measuring 619 to 1,328 square feet. The starting price at The Alexandria is $780,000, according to Polaris Pacific, the firm handling sales. A 1,055-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit showed up on Redfin listed at $1.2 million or about $1,135 per square foot.
A few new condo buildings have entered the San Francisco market recently including Stage 1075 in Mid-Market, 815 Tennessee in Dogpatch and 99 Rausch in SoMa.
Nonetheless, the number of new condos on the market shrunk by 32 percent during the past year to 605 available homes in 15 developments in April, according to Polaris Pacific.
